New Job

I started a new job today. I'm not leaving the bus driving gig yet, but in the meantime, on Fridays, I'll be substitute teaching in the Lockhart Independent School District. I'm enrolled in an alternate certification program that should land me in a classroom by August but I wanted to get some on-the-job training. Why not sub?

At orientation today, we heard from a no nonsense middle school principal who's very serious and passionate about education. During her Q&A, she paused to say hello to me and ask how I was doing (I briefly interviewed with her a few months back about what to do to get started on the teaching thing). Then we heard from a black-eyed elementary school principal. She assured us her injury was not job related. There was a huge collective sigh of relief in the room. I also made a few contacts with people who will be in the same certification courses that I'll be starting in February. It'll be nice going in knowing a few people beforehand.

This is the first step of a journey that I'll find both extremely challenging and rewarding. I'm looking forward to being on the other side of the desk for a change.
